Diasporas request investigation into maltreatment and killings of African migrants at Spain - Moroccan border

The African diaspora and the global community cannot allow people of African descent to continue to be abused in many parts of the world.

“The recent shameful experience of Africans fleeing the war in Ukraine and bordering Europe is a reminder of the ongoing disregard for the rights and dignity of black people around the world.”

The group says it is very sad and disheartening noting that African refugees and migrants are still being treated with contempt, especially by European and Latin American Countries.

Despite the 1951 Geneva Refugee Convention.“Why is it easy to abandon terms of the Geneva Convention of 1951 on Refugees, which outlines rights of displaced people, and the legal obligations of nations and states to protect Africans, yet, we are quick to condemn discrimination, mistreatment, and deaths when they occur elsewhere?

“If it is confirmed that Spain enabled the death of these migrants, the global community and organisations must ensure the country is held responsible. Same goes for Morocco.

“Observers see Morocco as a stable and progressive economy in Africa and, therefore, do not expect an African country to be implicated in horrific acts against fellow Africans.

“ADC demands urgent investigation of this incident to expose the perpetrators and hold them accountable for despicable acts in line with international law and conventions,” ADC added.

The congress urged Morocco, Spain, and global community to follow-up the matter with the urgency it deserves to prevent a recurrence.
