BREAKING: Reps Summon Customs Chief Over Reports of Senior Officers Refusing to Retire

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, to appear before it on Tuesday, February 18.

Reason for the Summon:

The summon follows a petition regarding the refusal of some top officials to retire after their due dates. The Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, a civil society organization (CSO), had filed the petition, alleging that some officials with the ranks of comptroller and assistant comptroller were due for retirement but had not disengaged from the service.

Mike Etaba, chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, stated in a release on Wednesday, February 12, that Adeniyi must explain why some personnel have not retired in accordance with civil service rules.

The officers in question include Assistant Comptrollers Imam, Umar, and Egwu, as well as Comptrollers Awe, Fatia, and Faith.

“Nigerians deserve to know the truth of the matter, and it is only the CG that can clarify the situation,” the statement reads.
