The proposal was tabled before Obi after he made a ₦20 million cash donation for the school’s ongoing infrastructural development. Reverend Father Kelvin Caesar, the institution’s manager, had pleaded with the former governor of Anambra State to permit the school to name the hall after him. Caesar had announced to the audience while Obi presented the ₦20 million cheque that the construction of the hall was solely sponsored by the former governor. He further stated that following the donation, the hall would be named after Obi.
He said that he has also made donations to over 50 institutions across the country and it would be improper for all of them to be named after him. He said, “I do it to serve humanity. The reason God blesses us with resources is to use them to improve the lives of others and not for self-glorification.”
He further stated that his contributions to the improvement of education, healthcare, and alleviation of poverty stem from his desire to secure a better future for Nigerian children. He further assured that he would be back to the school for more. “I will return,” he said.
