USAID: We may be poor, but we won't beg for help – Nigerian Minister

Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, stated that the country can manage its citizens' health needs, even without the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to LBROADCAST, tech billionaire Elon Musk, leading President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), moved to take control of USAID, labeling it as a criminal organization. Musk described USAID as a "viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists" and called it "evil."

Earlier this week, Scott Perry, a U.S. Congressman from Pennsylvania, accused USAID of funding terrorist organizations like Boko Haram. He made this claim during the first hearing of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, highlighting that USAID had provided $136 million to build 120 schools in Pakistan.

In an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Minister Pate emphasized that Nigeria must rely on its own resources and will not beg for help. He stated, “We may be a poor country, but we are a capable country, and we are determined to own up to that responsibility. If others step in and support us, we appreciate it, but we are not begging for it, and we also will live within what we have.”
